Do I have grounds to terminate my administrative assistant for insubordination?
She’s asking way too many intrusive questions regarding my recent office supply order of 100 black magic markers. You know, the thick ones that smell really good? Anyway, she needs “justification” to place such a large order.
She displayed this same level of impertinence when questioning an order I placed a few months ago for a couple of cases of rubber cement. I resent the implication that I lack pragmatic justification to utilize these supplies….prodigiously.
So, do I have sufficient grounds to can her?
Damn straight, DB. You’d think people would make some effort to keep their jobs in this trying economy. Excuse me while I head over to her desk to pour rubber cement all over her personal photos. (((((Daydream))))
Yo, Shane. It’s called the “Employment-at-Will” law, dicklips. I can fire her for simply not liking the way she dresses. For someone who claims to work for a law firm, you certainly are a dipshit.

Employment is “at-will” which means you can can her at any time.
By the way, white out gives you a better high than the smelly markers.

Man, how nosy can some people be? Tell her if she doesn’t just place the dang order without question that you’ll be using one of those markers to label her box of stuff that she’ll soon be leaving with. Sheesh… the nerve of some people…
((((Nolte))))

She’s a mole sent to find out why you haven’t been fired for solvent abuse at work, she’s just there to make her case so you can get canned. I’d order a few cases of the red Evostik for your leaving party.

You know, it would be a shame if your administrative assistant got arrested for making pre-inaugural death threats. I’m just sayin’………

You could hold up a paper that says “Great work!” and it won´t even matter if it´s written in red. lol

By purchasing these items is a higher (than you) power going to question her? Will she be held accountable for the purchase if it is to be found unnecessary? I mean if she is asking to protect her job than no. If none of what I just said is the case then I think you should advise her that you are her boss and she is to do what you say no questions asked. Canning her? Sounds like a silly reason to me unless you just don’t like her and a look for a justification.

Bypass her and order whippets through catering.

How come she’s being so nosy? Does she know how hard it is to find a job in this economy? If you’re a nice boss and are asking her nicely, she should not question you!
If she asks you why you need so many, tell her that her replacement requested the order. lol

It sounds like this lady isn’t looking at the big picture. I bet you have hundreds of computers where you work at. Next time order 50 cases of Dust Off and see if she tries to argue with you about that. And if she does, and she is ugly then get rid of her.
However if she is hot, sleep with her first, then get rid of her.
And make sure you use a couple of those markers on her, if you know what I mean.

Your question sounds like it’s probably just a joke. But in case it isn’t….
If you are in the US, yes you can fire her for any reason that isn’t discriminatory, or for no reason. So yes you can.
Sounds like she is thinking that you are planning on sniffing the stuff rather than using it for office purposes. Those are pretty strange quantities. If she’s right, then you have bigger problems than your admin asst.

As long as they are office supplies, and she has no responsibility to account for the items , the budget or how it is spent… you should can her and hire one of Huffington’s relative

Darling, you simply have to don a cravat and join us in Etiquette. You’ll make a splendid addition to the traveling dinner party.

She’s doing her job you numb nut!! Such large orders she needs to question as I am certain she needs to keep records of these purchases for budgetary reasons. Unless it is actually your company I am sure she is reporting this to someone who has asked her to report back. Go ahead and fire her. Whether or not she has a legal leg to stand on it doesn’t mean she WILL NOT pursue legal action. Then go ahead and explain to your boss why you were making those purchases. You are the exact type of boss the law firm I work for LOVES! Yes. FIRE HER! ANOTHER CLIENT!
