Does anyone know the dress code for employees at Staples office supply store?
I have been working there for 3 weeks and I just got sent home for not wearing black socks. We are supposed to wear black pants and black shoes and the red shirt that they supply but I wear white socks. I never gave one thought to it, and have been wearing white socks from day one. Our store manager was already gone for the day and there were two Assistant Managers there and they said to clock out and go home and change my socks and come back. Well I was so shocked because this to me was UNREASONABLE. I was only there for a 4.5 hour shift, and was already two hours into it. To leave and come back for one additional hour for something so ridiculous was appauling. So I went home for the day. SO MY QUESTION IS…… DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU HAVE TO WEAR BLACK SOCKS AT STAPLES. Does anyone think that maybe there might be more going on because why couldn’t they have told me tonight to make sure that from NOW ON to wear black socks, you know?

Sounds like the assistant managers either are not well trained or there just not good managers. It was very childish and control freaky. I’ve been an office manager and as long as the clothing isn’t offensive and not too noticable to the customers it would not of done any harm to allow you to complete your shift. And advice you of the dress code, at most a written warning could be approrpriate.
