Open Office < > Microsoft : Global settings:
It can be done on a document-by-document basis from the 'Save as...' drop menu, or you can have a global permanent setting for all the different applications within Oo.
For that: Oo> Tools> Options> Load/Save>Microsoft: here check whether you want Oo to handle incoming Microsoft 'stuff' (L) and/or to have your 'stuff' saved so that it can be exported to a Microsoft application (S). Dunbar Pappy

Open the document in openoffice, click "file" at the top left, then "save as.." in the list that springs up. A box then opens showing you where you can save the document, choose a name and location and (this is the clever bit) there is a box next to the words "save as type:" - click on that and choose the option that is "Microsoft Word 6.0."

Openoffice have created a little animation to help you, they are so helpful (see the "source" box). Sam
