how to ship something through the post office?

i want to start selling on ebay. and once a person buys my item, i dont know what to do from there….
i’ve never shipped a package from the post office, do i bring the item there and get it packaged there? do they supply boxes and envelopes?
please tell me the basics on how to ship and item . i’m a newbie

Well you can ship from the post office, from a postal annex, or anyplace that ships from fedex, ups, etc. I prefer one that has more options than just the post office so you can get the best price available to you. Check around…I like using Longs mailing center because you get a lot more options there.
Regardless of where you go, they can supply boxes and envelopes, and pack the item for you but you will pay for the service. If you can get a box and pack the item yourself first, you can save some money but if not, they can take care of all of that for you. Just bring in the item, the address you are shipping to and they will do the rest of it for you.

you can have them package it for you, or you can just buy the stuff and do it yourself and then just bring it to them to send out

you can go to the USPS website and they tell you how much everything will cost you depending on the weight and size of your package that you’re shipping.
you can buy packaging from most post offices, though if not, you can buy boxes and other shipping packages at places like Walmart and Staples.
you dont have to use a specific box though. i shipped a shoebox full of snapple caps once. you just need to make sure everything inside is secure (bubblewrap/newspaper) and that it’s closed securely.

They do supply packing materials, but you have to pay for them and pack the stuff yourself there in the post office. It would be best for you to go to a place like Staples and purchase your own boxes and packing materials (bubble wrap, brown craft paper, etc) or use newspaper and pack the stuff up at home and then take it to the post office. If the item is over a certain size and weight, you will have to take it to UPS or FedEx, as the Post Office will not ship oversized items. You can get the sizes and weights off of the internet.
