What about an office setting makes people tend to cheat more?

It seems most affairs happen within an office/cubicle type atmosphere—-why is this? Has anyone else noticed this? Yes, I am aware that affairs happen EVERYWHERE no matter what the job, but it seems more prevalent in an office space. Is it because there is a good mix of men and women? Is it because offices usually dress up making everyone more attractive?? Who has a better theory on this? Please share :) Thanks.

    I agree with a couple of your theories, that they dress attractively in an office setting, and that they’ve got a good mixture of men and women together. Also, they spend at least 40 hours a week together in a fairly confined space, they’re often looking their best and behaving their best, collaborating to solve problems. Quite a recipe for romance.     I think ppl who are going to cheat, cheat anywhere and any situation. You either have integrity or you don’t. Period. Mommyhoney

    In our culture, competition–and I may add, unhealthy competition as opposed to cooperation–is the rule of thumb. Rather than working together for the common good of all, individuals are rewarded for their individual contributions to the organization. This atmosphere of unhealthy competition breeds cheating, back-biting, office politics, etc. We could learn a lot from the Japanese culture when it comes to a cooperative, communal, and supportive experience. $300 please.     I think that most people in America have two separate lives. They have their home life, and then their work life. Americans usually spend more time at their office than they do with their families, so it really is like a second home. Because of this, they may seem to themselves a different person, and worthy of a different mate. That’s what my theory would be if this were a real study. spud
