What are the most important supplies/tools needed for an office?

office supply
A.P. asked:

These supplies are needed for a business that helps people. I just want to be sure we have all we need to begin with and go from there.

…telephone; computer or log books and file system to hold records; desk, or table, or chairs; pens, paper and if you’re there to help people ~~~ a good and patient heart.

Computer (with internet connection) telephone, fax machine, printer, and at least a desk, chair, and filing cabinet. You’ll be using paper (for the copier and for yourself) pens/pencils, file folders, envelopes, stamps, etc. If you’re running the business you will probably need an accounting program for the computer (like Quicken) so that you can keep the financing straight.

If you’ll be helping people in the office, you’ll need a waiting area with some seats and some reading material for while they wait. A coffee maker is cheap and always a nice touch.
