What do I need to buy to get a wireless connection to my home computer?

I am a computer idiot. I am moving to an apartment that will have high speed internet access but not in the room that I want my computer in. Instead of getting another cable line installed, my friend told me to just get a “wireless” connection. He also said words such as “ethernet” and “antenna”. He said that you could buy it at office supply places for fairly cheap. What am I looking for?

A router you plug your high speed ethernet into it and it distrubutes it out to your computers either wirelessly or you can use cables. :O)

Go to Tigerdirect.com for the best price. Buy a wireless router and pay attention to the letter N, G etc. Then you buy a wireless card that just plugs into your motherboard. Its easy to take off the side and slide it in. Make sure the card matches the router to make it easier to connect such as same brand and same letter. Download the device drivers from the cds you’ll get with them and do a wireless setup on your computer.

If the apartment already h as a wireless network then what you need is a wireless card that you can either plug into a PCI slot on your computer or into a USB port. If your apartment does not already have a network, you will also need a wireless router. In all this could cost anywhere from $80-$150+

no, wirless stuff isnt cheap. i assume u got 1 desktop (a massive non-portable computer) and a laptop. okay obviously, u have a modem. but a router, i reccomend 1 that costs about 30-50dollars. first, plug in the router to give it power. then take out a blue plug in the router box and replace it with the yellow plug connected to the modem. then connect the yello plug (its an ethernet plug) and put the yellow plug into slot1. get a wireless card(an adapter) and install the cd on the computer that already has internet. go to ur laptop, install the cd that came with the adapter and go to “my computer”. type in on the top “My Network Places” and make a new connection. connect to it and go to ur web browser. go t o and connect to the internet there also. congratulations, ur done. u can connect to th erouter with a cellphone, a game system, and ur loaptop.
