What office do you contact when the court orders someone to pay you money?

office
Hilow H asked:

About a year ago these kids smashed up a car I had parked behind my business. They did $6500 of damage. The court order them to pay me $6500 and that was the last I heard of that. I’m not sure what office to contact to see if they’ve paid anything.

Check with your county sheriff (not police if you have both), in many places (where they have both) the sheriff’s office provides help in matters like this. Sheriff’s are generally charged with enforcement of court orders (they also handle custody of prisoners). Yo it’s Me

Your best bet, if they were under 18, is to contact the parents. If over 18 you have to find out where each defendant works, lives and so forth and then hire an attorney to garnish wages or get the sherriff to go take personal property. Its not easy to collect, I wish you good luck. Todd Ed, Sofa King

Because juveniles were involved the case would have gone through the juvenile court system in the jurisdiction of where the offense occurred.

Contact you County Court Office, Civil or Juvenile Division, where the case would be maintained.

It’s possible the case go back before the court on a motion based upon their failure to pay restitution.

    Best wishes. KC V ™
