Actually, there's a good selection for art stores in Pasadena and they all try to differentiate themselves from more commercialized stores like Michaels. Personally, I wouldn't go to Michaels as I like supporting local independent business. Anyways, taking a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to go supplies shopping would be a fun thing to do, especially in a beautiful city like Pasadena. Paper Source or Blick Art in Pasadena.
